The car: 1970 Plymouth Barracuda

Price: $89,900

The 1970 Barracuda was the first year for the third gen of Plymouth’s nameplate and was the model that severed its ties with the economy oriented Valiant body platform. The 1970+ models were designed outright to handle big block V8s and bring the fight to the Mustang and Camaro. It has wonderful styling by John E. Herlitz that emphasizes power and performance. A long hood, two doors, strong haunches, and a short trunk all give the visual appeal that muscle car lovers, err, love.

We may have found you quite a deal here. As of the time of posting, this car is bid at $55,427 with four days to go, but has a buy it now price of $89,900. This car is said to have 6015 miles on the clock and includes many upgrades, the main one being an engine swap from a, yawn, 318 cubic inch (5.2 liters) to a 440 ci six pack (7.2 liters!). It is claimed to be putting out 600 horsepower! Now that is genuine muscle. We don’t condone burnouts or street racing at Petrolicious, but what this car’s next owner does is beyond our control. Hopefully, it might be you that wins this auction of what looks like a great car made better by an owner with means and enthusiasm.

$90,000 makes me choke, but I could possibly be persuaded to part with 55, for this beauty. Still, I feel it is a real shame that so many of these old heroes are priced out of the range of those who love them the most. I understand the concept of an investment, but buying a ‘Cuda, and parking it, forever, in the garage, is like marrying a supermodel who won’t even let you kiss her. Yeah, you have the satisfaction of knowing a lot of guys are jealous, but you never get to drive her.

I think we all could use some muscle in our lives. You have to love the long hood short rear tail of the Plymouth Barracuda. Generally im more of a fan of the second gen Barracudas but there is something about the third gen cars that just screams muscle car. Chrysler of France raced hemi powered Barracudas and did quite well with them i might add.
