964 Turbo Had Big Shoes To Fill
The first production 911 Turbo, the 930, was an instant hit despite its infamous boost induced oversteer threat to unwary and uninitiated drivers. With its widened track and large heat evicting rear whale tail spoiler, it was easily recognizable as the Turbo model… if you could catch up to it, that is. Produced from 1975 to 1989, the 930 Turbo is widely considered one of the era’s most desirable and historically significant sportscars.
When it came time for the Stuttgart scientists to build the 930’s successor, Porsche knew it had a tall order to execute. Due to production hurdles and budget constraints, the first batch of 964 model Turbos were fitted with modified 3.3-liters derived from the 930 Turbo. Porsche remapped the renewed powertrains for a more linear, less hair-raising, power delivery. Still, for 1990, the 3.3 Turbo 964 proved to be fast enough with around 315 horsepower and 332 pound feet of torque.
By 1993, the 964 Turbo received an all-new engine. Upped to a 3,600cc 3.6-liter with higher compression and, most importantly, more boost, the new turbocharged M64 engine spooled power up to 360 horsepower and a tire melting 385 pound feet of torque! These late-cycle updated 3.6 Turbos were only built from 1993 to 1994, totaling less than 1,500 built by production’s end. These low production numbers make the late 964 “Turbo 3.6” one of the rarest and highly coveted 911 models to date.
The 964 chassis captured both traditional 911 characteristics, like it’s telepathic lightweight steering and rear-wheel bias pendulum-like handling, while providing modern performance and amenities with more power than ever before, ABS brakes, an improved HVAC system, and dual airbags in the most luxurious 911 cabin offered to date.
This 1994 Porsche 911 (964) 3.6 Turbo has rolled less than 53,000 kilometers (33,o00 miles) since new and presents in near 100% factory specifications. Finished in Wimbledon Green Metallic over light grey leather, this Porsche is the embodiment of 1990’s styling. This unique teal Porsche wears 18-inch three-piece five-spoke alloy wheels that feature a complex finish—the outer polished lip pops against the silver painted center spokes.
Nicely equipped, this Turbo sports a number of noteworthy factory options, to include headlamp washers, heated and power adjustable Sport Seats, power side view mirrors, power sunroof and windows, rear wiper, gold painted Brembo brake calipers, Sports Exhaust system, and more. Unoriginal, but tasteful, the car was fitted with a later 3.8 model rear spoiler, larger battery, and locking differential.

This documented numbers matching euro model 964 Turbo was resprayed once in it’s factory optioned Wimbledon Green Metallic paint. The rare paint was applied to the highest degree while the rest of the body remains largely in preserved original condition with the exception of the 3.8-liter model “whale tail” spoiler. Aside from the aftermarket stereo and center mounted added gauge, the color matched Wimbledon Green piped grey leather upholstery, carpets and floors mats, dashboard and instrumentation, door cards, headliner, and seats are all well kept and original. Mechanically, the car is in complete factory specifications and has been meticulously maintained.
The sale includes all owner’s manuals, original build spec sheet, service records, original window sticker, and a warranty card.

They’re uncommon: Considering every 911 is an evolutionarily continuation, it’s surprising it took so long for the 964 Turbo to catch up with the market’s unhinged air-cooled demand. In total 964 production, just 3,660 Turbos were built—of which, less than 1,500 were of the larger 3.6-liter displacement variant.

The color: With an unmodified all-original powertrain, a brilliant spearminty mint factory optional paint job, and a like-new near flawless interior, this very ‘90s low-mileage 964 Turbo looks like a sound investment the next lucky owner can enjoy, free of mechanical worries. Just don’t complain to us about all the attention this teal snail fed monster is sure to command.
