Automotive Designer Sticks out with Post-It Art

Galpin Auto Sports (G.A.S.) has been turning out custom cars, truck and SUVs since the early ‘70s. For decades they’ve managed to set custom trends for customers who have been buy cars off the family dealership located just across the street.

Today, G.A.S. is looking to the future thanks to its in-house designer, Doug Breuninger a.k.a. Dougie B. Doug is a recent graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He’s a rare breed in the custom car world in that his passion for design and custom car culture blend seamlessly. This allows Galpin customers an experience they’d only find in a one-on-one, not to mention pricey, OEM design consultation.

While Doug turns out mind blowing designs, including his latest creation the GTR1, he also explores his personal artistic range in his spare time. This past summer he was offered the opportunity to showcase his talents in a solo art show in Los Angeles. His Post-It series was the piece that stole the show.

Doug proposed a challenge to himself: capture as much detail as possible on the famous office supply 3”x3” canvas. He chose 50 iconic cars from the past 100 years to kick things off. Car like the Ford Model-T, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Miura, Bertone Lancia Stratos Zero (a personal favorite of mine), and Ferrari 250 GTO. Lest we forget about his more contemporary offerings like the DeLorean from Back to the Future, RWB Porsche and Buick Grand National. There is really something for everyone’s automotive tastes.

“For years I’ve created my work for others, this is the first time where I’ve explored creating work for myself. It was scary to take a step from behind the curtain of corporate design and into the art world, but I’d do it again to push my limits as an artist,” Doug explained to us as we dove into his motivation behind his series.

One thing is for sure, these little masterpieces are about as addictive as is collecting Hot Wheels. You just can’t seem to get enough of them.

While some may feel he missed out on a few, they shan’t worry their little heads off, Doug is working on Post-It Series Part 2 as an encore. If you really want to get exactly what you’re after (and if he hasn’t created it already) Doug is available for commission opportunities.
