Earlier this month, Petrolicious featured a video on Bob Gough’s Dark Copper Metallic 1967 Barracuda Formula S, which included several owner-installed upgrades like a 340 engine (which wasn’t available till ’68), TREMEC 5-speed, 15-inch wheels, and nitrogen shocks. The truth is that, as magnificent as the 1967-69 Barracuda is, it was an also-ran to the Mustang, Camaro, and Javelin. How so?

When Plymouth was planning its retort to the 1965-66 Mustang, it matched the same three body styles – fastback, coupe, and convertible – but its pedestrian Mopar “A-body” compact origins were very much in evidence; in comparison, the Mustang, Camaro, and Javelin looked every bit the specialty car that they were. Consequently, second-gen Barracudas can be had for a song.

This 1968 Barracuda convertible is one of 2,840 built, with most having the mild 318 as motivation. This ain’t no muscle Barracuda by any stretch but, in this world of overpriced Barrett-Jackson “perfumed pigs,” this convertible cruiser is a refreshing collectible find. It includes a power top and according to the seller has absolutely no rust anywhere. Better yet, a coupe or fastback might be even cheaper, meaning you can replicate Bob’s ’67 without going into debt.

I know everyone usually drools over the third gen Barracudas but there is something about the second gens i find to be more appealing. I think it might be the coke bottle contours that just gave the car a very clean appearance. Anyways back to the car its only a 318 but its convertible and not too expensive so it should be a nice little ride for anyone who wants it
