The silence of an early Friday morning was shattered by a glorious, albeit incongruous, supercharged Alfa 6C 2300B Mille Miglia Spyder staging via the “Christmas Tree” at a rural drag strip—a most conspicuous sight in anyone’s book!

The ‘Drive Tastefully’ maxim was thoroughly embodied in the inaugural running of the boutique “3 Day Trial”, challenging competitors to get out and use their special cars with purpose.

In near-perfect conditions, a diverse group of classics spanning from the ‘30s to the ‘80s power through more than 600 miles of competitive navigation over some of the most spectacular roads and scenery Victoria, Australia, has to offer.

Entrants blasted along lake shores, wound their way through picturesque bushland, and traversed the Great Dividing Range; this was interspersed with stops at local race tracks to complete a ¼ mile sprint, hillclimb, and tarmac motorkhana. The goal is, simply: aggregated points victory, over three days of light-hearted competition.

The 3 Day Trial runs each November, and this year’s event was an unforgettable experience. For details of the 2016 event, visit classicroadtrials.com.au.

Apparently a delightful driving event in my favorite state. Another reason for a return. Cheers.
