“I was a bit skeptical about the color in the beginning, but I kind of like it now. It stands out, definitely,” says Torfi Sigurjonsson of his Speed Yellow 928. With a small list of cars to collect, the brightly-colored Porsche was actually #2. “On the top of the list was the E500, which I bought 2006, and this is a US model. I bought it in New Jersey.” Torfi’s day job? Airline pilot.

“I was hooked on aeroplanes since I was a small kid. Nothing else was an option, other than being a pilot. I’m quite lucky really, to have a job,” he says. “It’s a hard competition to get a job with the national carrier like Icelandair, but I made it there, I’ve been there for now 26 years.”

Torfi agrees that there’s a connection between fast aeroplanes and fast cars—least of which their aversion to the winter months. But he doesn’t own his vehicles for speeding, saying, “It’s a nice feeling just to drive around, not too fast. You know of all the power in there, and knowing that you have it is a good feeling. You don’t have to be going 200-plus [kph].”

With a busy working lifestyle and a dedicated hobby, no matter what, Torfi will always make room for the machines he loves. “I try to keep my life not too complicated, but I have this car fetish. V8 fetish. You only have one life, so I try to make the most out of it.”

From August 2003 to August 2013, I owned a 1994 928GTS and drove it 75,000 miles. Fantastic car. From 2005 to 2013, I also owned a 1992 500E, more or less my daily driver. What a sleeper, what a great car.

Please Torfi, remove that OZ rims back to the primitive. Such a superb design didn’t happen by chance.

Pilot Torfi with the coolest rides on the island. Extraordinary Iceland setting, convincing photography and the inspiring story of an true enthusiast… a good one!

Two of my favourite things in one article: my shared love for the 928 and Iceland, where we were once forced to stop driving since the road was blocked by… an abandoned helicopter #picsoritdidnthappen

Ha… No love for the 500e?
One of my favorite sedans ever.. Top 2 or 3, love the fact it has that snug little v8 with that great body, the low stance and flared front arches. There is one in my neighbourhood (young kid drives it).. I always slow down to tale a look.

Another well crafted video. The 928 has certainly been a sleeper.
The owner’s philosophy is right on the money!

I always wait for the reasoning. That certain reason for the car that fulfilled their needs. Today this mans reason was very poignant to me. ” you only have one life….” don’t wait, buy it or build it and do whatever you need to to get to that place. The place where you and the car make for the feeling we all that are passionate about our rides understand. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE…

About 10 years ago, I had a bit of phase, and really wanted 928, but every single one that I found, all of them had some electrical issues that I really didn’t want to deal with. Nowadays it’s way out of my reach…what a great looking thing. In Japan, we used to call it Porsche’s aircraft carrier.

As usual, beautifully filmed and crafted. I look forward to these videos.
Can we have more Brit, French and American cars instead of all German?

Both cars are under appreciated [ as well as under priced ] and well overdue for some positive attention . The video ? Hell … its Iceland .. you’d have to work awfully hard to have the visuals go wrong . And the music .. albeit a bit lame .. is at lest appropriate to the location having just a hint of Sigur Ros / Amiina to it . So Petrolicious …… you’ve done a couple of restored 928’s now .. both in article and video … and kudos to you for that . . But hows about a little… Read more »

Always liked the 928 even though it was not a great success. Porsche finally got off their 911 gimp and tried to build something new and innovative. The e500 must be a monster. Another nice vid and geographically interesting too.

Yes! Finally a 928! You just can´t go wrong with a V8 🙂 Just wish you had filmed more of that amazing Porsche!

great visual on this video, the stark nature of Iceland and the yellow 928 strike an amazing balance! I’ve owned both of those cars and it’s about time they get some love from others, they truly are fantastic when you find a good one. The 500e to this day has been my favorite sleeper. If able in the future videos it would be great to feature the hidden gems, the cars that dont normally get any light, but yet we all know they are the foundation of our hobby. Just a thought.

” …. it would be great to feature the hidden gems, the cars that dont normally get any light ”

Amen to that … and may your suggestion be taken to heart by the Petrolicious crew

Great to see a 928 featured on Petrolicious! My Dad’s had his 1988 928 S4 for the last 20 years so I’m naturally in love with everything 928 🙂
