This Grand Prix Board Game Lets You Race Your Friends In Style
Great news: it’s time to retire that cheesy Monopoly race car for good. Chances are you’re not alone in wishing there was a more engaging way to integrate cars into a board game beyond superficially-shaped pieces. Designer Mark Haskins has been working on this challenge for years as a passion project, and the result is Lacorsa—“the race” in Italian.
It’s a game designed around overtaking, works with between 2–6 players (and teams!), and the winner is crowned World Champion. Each deal is a race, with the cards played by “drivers” through the hand. Great, right? After seven hands, a winner gets to gloat.
Besides an interesting style of gameplay, Lacorsa looks beautiful, with shapely game pieces and crisp card design. Even the rules are called, appropriately, “Sporting Regulations”. They’re online if you’d like to get a jump on your competition.
While I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, we’ve invited Haskins to demo it at the office—defeating coworkers in a game of skill is worth a bit of lost productivity, surely…
