What Is Your Dream Road?

There’s no shortage of good driving roads in the world. Sure, most roads are boring metropolitan commutes or crowded arrow-straight highways, but if you look hard enough there are countless hidden b-roads, sweeping mountain passes, and breathtaking beach cruises.

There are still those roads, however, that are greater than the rest. Roads that become legends in their own right, and are pilgrimages for the automotive faithful. Roads like the Stelvio Pass, or the Blue Ridge Parkway. These are the dream roads.

While my Pontiac would probably be more at home winding through Nevada’s Valley of Fire or among the redwoods on Highway 101 outside Klamath in Northern California, there’s really only one answer for me: Downtown Monte Carlo, following the Grand Prix route. Rounding the Hotel hairpin, turning through Portier and into the tunnel would be pure automotive nirvana.

My favorite road is the Midlands countryside in Northern Portugal. One of the favorite roads of Red Bull racers. And the best driving road for speed geeks. Writing reviews on https://hireessaywriter.org/ students car racing and international championships between colleges, I have to confess that dreaming isn’t so bad as it seems. I still look forward to joining the Racers Clubs some day in Arizona.

Transfăgărășan in Romania. I’ve got a framed print of it next to my desk and is great to stare into when I need a break.

The episode of Top Gear where they take a trip to Romania is one of my favorites. Such a beautiful place!

Yep, enjoyed some classics.
The glorious Stelvio on a 924 Turbo, great roads too and from via Klosters and Davos …
Did the Blue Ridge Parkway in a Ford LTD which WORKED, OK? … so good.
But my Road of Roads – ?
Well Number Two … the Nurburgring is an extraordinary technical challenge for the sports driver; I was in the race just before Lauda had his ears singed ..
but Number One …
Porsche took us to their ‘works’ hotel back in the 50s/60s, when they launched the Porsche 968 …
the island of Sicily and the TARGA FLORIO road circuit is my nomination,
preferrably in a 908/3 with Brian or Richard or even Vic as my coach …
Porsche took 15 968 and allowed 4 weeks of abuse by the world’s media and sales forces …
My pal has the ’73 class winning Porsche 2.7 RS Lwt which was purchased in London, driven down to Sicily, competed and won it’s class, and driven home … but the Targa Florio is my dream road …

From Tokyo, the Atsugi Odawara Toll Road, connecting to the Toyo Tires Turnpike, then Ashinoko Skyline, then to the Hakone Skyline or the Izu Skyline. Finishing at Moose Hills for their massive Moose Burger. Or, if you’ve got a few days the Manza Highway out to Nihonn Romantic Highway and Usui Touge… Bliss!

I live in Las Vegas and had never gone up to Mt. Charleston but had a blast up there for a few hours! Really nice and it was about 30 degrees cooler than the city.

In french alpes, we are so lucky, nice mountain road in summer or with badass snow,

My favorite road course, is the national No.4 in Greece from Veroia to Kozani city…tight corners and endless forests!!!

One of my favorite roads is Hwy 128 between Hwy 101 & Hwy 1 in Northern California, on the way to Mendocino. Hwy 1 all along the coast is great also.

Since we’re dreaming here – Chuckanut drive south of Bellingham, Washington, closed to other traffic, all to myself, on a dry, sunny day, and extended by about another 25 miles. 🙂

I love that road. Made me very sentimental reading that. I remember driving it every chance I got when I lived there over a decade ago. My B13 SE-R was note perfect on that road, made me a very happy man.;)

I’ve got a 1972 Le Mans! I absolutely love GM A-bodies, and I think Pontiac had the best of all from the period.

The old Francorchamps F1 road circuit in the Ardennes in Belgium.
The seaside road from Pisa, Italy all the way up to Monaco, France.
The peninsula seaside superstrada that will take you around Salento, Puglia in Italy.

I would love to drive the ring road around the Isle of Man. I don’t know if its any good but I would love to make the trip some time to find out! It looks beautiful and the road itself plays a big role but the scenery is also pretty important in my opinion.

I would suggest driving the Monaco GP circuit very early in the morning if you don’t want to encounter traffic. The French Riviera also provides my favourite road, The N85 a.k.a. the Route Napoleon. Heading out of Cannes it snakes up past Grasse into the Alpe Maritime it goes all the way to Grenoble. I’ve driven part of it in a tired Mercedes A Class hire car. Need to do the whole road in something proper!

Matthew, that is a really nice piece of tarmac. I did that amongst many other great roads with Paul Geudon in this years Club Mulholland Ultimate Grantour.
