1 Hour Of Lancia Delta Rally Driving Is Exactly What We All Need

It’s Monday morning, the world is churning into another week of jobs, responsibilities, and, well, grown-up stuff. So if you’re looking for a bit of mindless-but-incredible entertainment before your day clicks into gear, check out this video.

I can’t believe I stumbled on this one. It’s nearly an hour of Lancia Delta Integrale footage, set to dance music. It’s like a Lancia Delta Megamix, and actually begins with “Forever Young” by Alphaville.

There’s no host, no intro titles, no interviews, and the quality is what you’d expect from a video store rental in the mid-’90s. I had it running as I was doing work last week, and after a while it’s kind of like a car enthusiast’s version of relaxing whale sounds. If you don’t know where to begin, I recommend 23m45 or so…

Amazing cars from a bygone era! Thanks for sharing your video find.

For further reading, may I suggest ‘LANCIA DELTA INTEGRALE, written by Peter Collins, published by Veloce Publishing, 2017, ISBN: 978-1-787110-76-2, which tells the full story of these much admired and sought-after cars, including much information and photos of their rallying exploits and history about their development over their racing lives.

Another superb text is ‘Group B The rise and fall of rallying’s wildest cars’ by John Davenport and Richard Klein, published by McKLEIN PUBLISHING, 3rd edition 2019, ISBN: 978-3-927458-56-7.

For some reason the only thing before 1985 they do is the RAC 1984, which obviously had to have too…

Nearly all rallies from every season, commentry, interviews. No music. Just engines!
85-86 obviously is in Group B and its FANTASTIC. As you’re guessing, the 87 season begins as a little sad.

The whole Integrale project seems somehow counter intuitive to the norm in Italian Automotive design and engineering. It was not bespoke, it was not aesthetically beautiful and little attention was paid to that even though it is beautiful in its own way. The changes made were entirely functional. The start point was an average car.
However the end result is legendary and hugely successful.

Great find! I wish all econo-boxes had been this cool! Some killer footage here for sure but it’s still not Group B. It’s so clear that these guys don’t have the luxury of excessive power to dial in any drift angle they want at any speed like the “killer B” drivers had. I’d like to find some interviews of drivers of the era and hear their take on the transition out of group B. It had to be anticlimactic.
