A Weekend In Paris
Ah, Paris. The City of Light attracts more than 20 million tourists each year, and has been a top destination for decades. There’s no city like Paris, and even Ford of Britain understood this as it decided to create a splendid film to promote its then-new Anglia 105E Deluxe.
The year is 1960, and you’re one half of a young British couple traveling for a weekend—so where do you go?
Thankfully, we don’t have to wonder: over seven minutes, you’ll see a “young, sophisticated” couple take in the sights and sounds of Paris while behind the wheel of their new Anglia in Weekend in Paris. “For Excitement Everywhere” is the film’s tagline, but would you have chosen a different vehicle—a Citroën DS, perhaps?
And for a weekend in Paris now, what’s on your to-do list? Though it wasn’t available to our Anglia pair back in 1960, we’d definitely take a stroll through the most enjoyable Musée National d’Art Moderne, housed in the stunning, scaffold-like Centre Georges Pompidou. For a classic lovely enough to be our companion, thoughts drift to the Matra 530: small, sporty, fun, and avant-garde.
