Specialist classic car event organiser Peter Auto has launched Rallyes des Légendes, a three-day tour through France for 50 cars produced between 1925 and 1975.

The rally, in which ‘the idea of competition will be totally absent’, will follow a star-shaped route, meaning participants will end each day back at the central town from which they started.

Peter Auto, which also organises renowned classic car events such as the Tour Optic 2000, Le Mans Classic and Chantilly Arts & Elegance, has set a 250km maximum on each of the three days. The route will follow special stages and include runs on a circuit.

The aim of the tour is to draw out the likes of Alfa Romeos, Aston Martins, Bentleys, Bugattis, Ferraris, Jaguars, Maseratis, Mercedes and Porsches from the 50-year period between 1925 and 1975. The ‘unique’ opportunity is an attempt at getting owners to run these cars in public being as ‘they are now only seen in exhibitions, a far cry from their natural environment’.

Renowned luxury watchmaker Richard Mille is to sponsor the rallyes, which is scheduled for September 2018.

Richard Mille himself said, ‘I’m a dyed-in-the-wool fan of classic cars which, in my opinion, are real works of art. Some of them are the incarnation of the major mechanical and aesthetic challenges of their era.

‘A vehicle’s beauty only truly comes alive when it’s moving! Thus, Patrick Peter and I are determined to create the Rallye des Légendes and invite the most exclusive cars in the world to take part in it.’

Patrick Peter, founder of Peter Auto said: ‘For Richard and me the creation of the Rallye des Légendes was an obvious step as we both prefer to see exceptional cars in action rather than on display.

‘Its aim is to become a rendezvous reserved exclusively for cars that have reached such an inestimable value that their owners no longer dare to drive them! Richard and I are going to create all the right conditions to make this possible again.’
