Awkward Car Photos

Here at Petrolicious, we spend a lot of time looking through photos of cars on the internet, in books, and in magazines. In these photos, it is very common to see people posing in front of their prized automotive possessions.

Posing for pictures with cars is something every car enthusiast has done at one time or another, but for some reason we seem to come across an outstanding number of images wherein individuals lay on, sprawl across, stand on, or pose in otherwise completely awkward positions in relation to their vehicles.

We assume that most of the pictures below were part of larger photo shoots, but we have to wonder why some photographers insist on positioning individuals in the most unnatural and un-carlike ways?  Here are some of the best awkward car photos we have come across recently.

Which photo is your favorite?

Interesting panel gap on the Fulvia.
Mine doesn’t have that, but I wouldn’t let the brunette sit on the hood either.

Bonnie Tyler behind the Lambo and a slimmer Adele on the bonnet of the RR….

Cheesy…

These were very good pictures. However, there was no need to put in the one of the dune buggy.

Personally, I particularly like the vintage C2 Corvette shot. The cropping is psychologically subtle, as is the fact that the cars’ reverse lights are on. Given the pose, this is a very subliminal ‘rear-entry’ message. And they got away with it, thank heavens.

And nobody should forget the sad story of the topless model on the TVR stand (London Motor Show) who slipped while changing positions for the benefit of the cameramen on Media Day, and pierced her silicone-enhanced breast. It says a lot about British fair-play (back in the 1960’s, anyway) that this incident was not widely publicised. Imagine what the British tabloids would do with that story… and those pictures… today. Poor Trevor would have never made it past 1970! We’d have missed a lot of great cars…

I’m not sure who the manufacture is marketing a car to when a man sits in what appears to be diapers. Awkward!

This one’s always been a favourite of mine (the Brera).

Saying that, I do love the rare shot where whoever’s with the car looks completely natural (the MG TC). Most of the shots the lass looks like she’s held there under duress.

Odd compression on the shots. Much better opened up.
