McLaren’s Open Day Featured A Collection Of 23 Sports And Supercars Worth $63m

McLaren laid on a rather special display for 3000 of its employees and their families and friends at this year’s family open day. Lined up at the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) in Woking, Surrey were 23 road and race cars including the very first 12C built and the upcoming Speedtail hypercar.

Such a collection would set you back an estimated $63-million assuming McLaren could be persuaded to part with some of its most prized possessions. The last McLaren F1 prototype (the XP5) may not have been designed in the new McLaren Automotive era but it more than deserved its place in the line-up and is reputed to have an insurable value of around half that $63-m figure all on its own.

Despite McLaren Automotive having been founded just 10 years ago it has recently built its 20,000th car and is on course to launch a further 14 models by 2025 under its Track25 business plan. By this point, every future McLaren supercar and sportscar will be hybridized and will feature advanced materials to help keep weight down as has been the focus of the existing range.

“Seeing our famous line-up of cars assembled here for the first time today is a reminder to everyone of how far we’ve come as a company in such a short space of time and the ambition and innovation of our people who have helped create that success,” said Mike Flewitt, chief executive officer at McLaren Automotive.

These impressive results could not have been achieved without the dedication of McLaren’s highly skilled workforce and Flewitt was quick to recognize them for their invaluable contribution: “It’s thanks to them, with the support of their friends and families, that we have been able to achieve so much, so quickly and launch so many amazing cars, over 90 per cent of which are exported around the world. Our ambition as a company remains stronger than ever and we look forward to adding more amazing drivers’ cars to our range very soon.” Of the 23 cars on display, most of the existing range was present as well as a rare MSO 688HS, a P1TM GTR track car and the upcoming McLaren GT.
