In 1975 French racing driver Hervé Poulain commissioned the renowned American artist Alexander Calder to create the livery for a unique BMW. Poulain raced the car in that year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, but this particular CSL’s competition record has since been eclipsed by its status as the first in an ongoing series of BMW Art Cars.
