How many photos of cars have you seen? Here in the office, many of us easily see a few hundred on most days—and a few thousand on others. But even after reliving historic motorsport events, vintage brochures, or recently held concours through photography, one angle has remained somewhat elusive, until now.

Ever wonder what the underside of popular classic cars look like, and not from a dimly-lit photo set of a project in progress? Photographer Sven Völcker has just the book you’re looking for.

Auto Reverse, by Völcker and Kay Michalak, is a collection 15 images featuring the underside of cars. From the Porsche 911 to (our favorite, at least from this angle) the Citroën 2CV, it’s simply a captivating way to look at cars. For those of you who see as many images of vehicles as we do, it surely represents a chance to lean in and start examining what’s usually hidden from view.

Even better, it includes a limited edition (of 200) original signed and numbered print of a 1968 Porsche 911 (22 x 32 cm / 8.6 x 12.6 in.). The book and some limited prints of larger sizes can be purchased on Völcker’s website.

Pity, no mid-engined cars…

You all realize that all the images are labeled, right? Just hover over them or click to enlarge.

The last one is a VW Golf mk1.
The 3rd has rear trailing arms suspension so I supect that it could be BMW but the front suspension is weird.
I jave no idea what the one before last is… Coul be french or british. Interesting design with the fuel tank ahead of the rear axle…

S2 Jaguar E-Type at the top right. Porsche 911 on the bottom left.

I am also too familiar with the bottom side of the Mini chassis!

I could pick the mini from a mile away.. Looks like a late one with a cat and rod change gearbox.. Strange choice to have a tow bar too!

The bottom sill has a bodgetastic “oversill” fitted too, it has no drain holes to let the water out (and keeps the rust in)
