This Porsche Is Forgotten Only By Those Who Don’t Know

Even though he'd been looking for a 911 (and has since owned several), he has completely fall for its light, quick manner and very predictable, solid handling. And while he doesn't consider the Porsche beautiful, Jack does think it looks "interesting" and loves the rarity. It may not be as popular as the 911, but this 914-6 ensures that the model, far from forgotten, will grow in prestige.

Using hyperbole to describe the 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO is unnecessary. The car speaks for itself. It is one of the last (of thirty-six) Ferrari GTOs ever built. This particular one, chassis #5571, was the first of the Series II bodies. It is equipped with a 3.0L V-12 producing about 300 horsepower and it completed multiple endurance races, winning its class in the 1964 Daytona Continental 2000km, Sebring 12 hour, and Nassau TT.
Chevelle Siblings Bring High-Desert Satisfaction
Play
As a youngster pumping high-octane gasoline for local muscle car owners in Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley during the 1960s, Mark Lundquist could only dream of owning a 1965 Chevrolet Malibu Super Sport (SS). As if to make up for lost time, however, Mark now has four Chevy SS cars (as well as a beastly “standard” 1968 Camaro) of varying vintages parked in a Joshua Tree, California, garage that inspires envy in every guest who drops in. And yes, this collection includes a ’65 Malibu SS.
Tatra T87: Things of the Past
Play
Other drivers speed past this Czech oddity without a second glance, seemingly oblivious to the car’s dorsal fin and triple headlights. But as Paul swings the Tatra into a parking space in front of a favorite local bistro, it’s as if he has brought the black teardrop to a stop in the middle of a Hollywood spotlight. Here come the second glances, the puzzled questions. "What in the world is that?"

In 1988 I traded a Kenwood stereo system for two 914s. One was a 2.0 and the other was a 1.7. Neither was kept for very long, which is unfortunate as I reminisce about it.

I had always known the 914-6 for its factory flared fenders to accommodate the beefier 911 transaxle and wider wheels, so this is a bit of a surprise to me, and makes me wonder if it isn’t actually a faux -6. Of course, I’m not an expert on the breed though, so could be mistaken; I’ve just never ever seen a 914-6 without those telltale flares.

The stock 914-6 was only built for a couple of years and had the stock feeder lines like on this car. Porsche homologated 914-6 GTs which had the steel flaired fenders and other changes so they could race them.

I’ve owned several of the 914-4s and loved them but have always lusted for a 6. I also owned a 944 and a ’80 911 SC and loved them too but the visceral feeling of driving a 914 is something very special!

Great video!

Great video about an unsung great car!

Now may I ask, where does this accent comes from? The man almost sounds like Jimmy Stewart sometimes.

Jack’s a Texan, born and bred. I believe he grew up in South Texas, attended Baylor University to play tennis, and has spent most of his adult life in Dallas. In other words, Texas, Texas, and more Texas.

6th overall in the 1970 Le Mans. I stand corrected. The race was going on during filming.

I believe a 914 featured rather prominently in the movie Le Mans. One of the half dozen or so other cars that Steve McQueen had on the track to give the illusion that a race was actually going on at the time of filming.

I recently visited the Mooneyes meet in Tokyo and found this neat Porsche 914, which for the first time I saw one in person.

Damn it was really clean and delicate in every way I saw.

You must be reading my mind Petrolicous because just a few days ago a Porsche 914 in blue flew past me in the other lane heading in the other direction and i just kept staring at it until it went by. I must agree that it was a forgotten car especially when think of the other great Porsche products out there. After seeing this video and hearing that great exhaust im sure it wont be forgotten much longer. Jack seems like one of those car guys you could talk too for hours about cars and not get sick of it. What a good video

914-6 is so special!!
I used to have two 1.7litre 914s sitting in my driveway. Both totally running thing that my friend dumped on me because he didn’t want them any more and nobody wanted them either, so he just gave them to me. Those days are long gone.

Finally some love for the 914! These can still be had on the cheap but I have a feeling that wont be the case for long.
