What Classic Car Do You Secretly Have A Crush On?

Green Ferraris. With that, my secret is out: I have a crush on green Ferraris. Ferraris are great, sure, I appreciate the history behind rosso corsa, and will even admit that many of them look best in their familiar red hues. To my eyes, however, pretty much any Ferrari could be improved by a coat of Verde Abetone.

Ferrari itself wrote about the color perhaps becoming fashionable earlier this year, mentioning that fewer than 1% of its new models were finished in that shade of green. Truthfully, I hadn’t considered (much less had seen) a green Ferrari until my teenaged years.

We used to get re-runs of the original UK TV comedy series Blackadder starring Rowan Atknson, then Mr. Bean, and I was excited to learn at the time that not only is Rowan Atkinson a massive car fan but had once ordered a 456 GT in Verde Inglese (English Green) over a bold rosso ½ leather interior. With a manual transmission, naturally.

“Green Ferrari. Neat,” I no doubt thought at the time, but it’s an attraction that has remained ever since. (But if we’re talking about specific cars, the Chevrolet Corvair Greenbriar…)

Which classic do you secretly have a crush on?

For me, it’s the 1966 Lincoln Continental Hardtop. Everyone always falls head over heels for the convertible, myself included but there is something about the hardtop that is absolutely beautiful.

One day i’d like to own a Nash 1949 Airflyte Coupé.
Also designed by Farina although he wouldn’t exactly called it one of his master pieces. Speaking about green Ferrari’s, Dutch Prince Bernard van Lippe-Biesterfeld, husband of the former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and also a good friend of Enzo Ferrari himself ordered his Ferrari’s green on special request.

Lately I’ve started to have something for prewar Fords, just out of a love for their historical significance and mechanical purity. It’s also something that’s being too left behind as the generations who knew them directly fade away without enough knowledge being passed along.

It’s an intimidating and complex curriculum, and I find rumble seats rather silly, but that entire culture is fascinating.

And they are lovely machines.

For people that know me, there are no secret crushes on classic cars—they’re all public! Everyone that knows me knows what cars I like the best. However, king of like the author, I do have a crush on Ferraris in a particular color… just not green. Although, I do like green, my crush is with blue Ferraris. In particular, dark blues with tan, parchment or saddle brown interiors. My second crush-type-thing would be classic 60s and 70s colors on classic 60s and 70s cars. The yellows, oranges, browns, etc. They all look great on the right cars.
