This is our first classified ad of a Mini Cooper but it surely won’t be our last (although we did just feature a design review). Besides its intrinsic qualities, looking good and having a huge interior for such a tiny car, Austin Minis have a robust history in competition and car culture. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis as Britain’s peoples car, it was primarily marketed as a economical car that could fit a family of four. Luckily, this meant a small and light car that people soon discovered was very fun race. Anyone that has driven a classic Mini knows they really do handle like go-karts. Although Minis were successful in professional road racing in the 1960s, their true racing glory exists in the overall wins at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965, and 1967 against much larger and more expensive cars.

This particular Mini was made in the UK as it should have been (no disrespect to Italy, where a version was also built) and was restored not long ago to better than new specs. It is painted in classic British Racing Green with Minilite wheels so it looks the part of a real racer on the outside but performs better than any 1960s Mini as it has adjustable shocks, 4 pot brake calipers and a pin differential. Original 1960s seats are neither supportive nor safe (no headrests) so this car has been updated with modern seats tastefully finished in green and cream colored leather.
