Street Find: This Mercedes 190E Needs A Bath

Los Angeles is hard on cars.

Not in the way that the East Coast is with its salty winters, or the south is, with its damp heat. L.A. is hard on cars in the sense that there is this pervasive, invisible, cloud of dust and smog that seems magnetically attracted to everything we care about. Don’t believe me? Start paying more attention to how decades-old paint jobs are holding up. Case in point: this otherwise perfectly maintained 190E 23-16 parked in front of the delightful automotive boutique, Period Correct.

For those who live in Los Angeles, do you find the same?

Dust ? In LaLa Land ? What dust ? That there’s bonafide acid rain inducing environmentally hazardous pollution particulates gents not to mention depending on the season * ash particles which in and of itself is riddled with caustic properties ! Not ‘ dust ‘ . And thats what’s so hard on yer paint jobs . The chemicals and acids within … not …. dust ! … cough … wheeze … hack …

FYI ; Don’t forget to chew thoroughly before inhaling …… ack …

You forgot to mention the springtime scourge of the south, POLLEN! Even parking in the garage, I still have a layer of yellow gunk on my cars and my poor Disco is turning green with the daily build up.

It’s not that difficult to keep a car relatively clean in LA if it’s a priority. Between washes, I use water-free automobile cleaners and micro-fiber cloths to keep my car as clean as I can. Of course, if I had to park on a street and/or in an uncovered parking lot all day/night – it would be more troublesome.

I think I’ve seen this car at a meet somewhere – I love it!

Yes, dust sucks here, but I’d take dust over rust!
