2002 Turbo Ads Show Off the 1970’s Fastest Shoebox

Europe’s first turbocharged production car, the 2002 Turbo is among the rarest and most desirable Neue Klasse BMWs ever built. Introduced in 1973, the Turbo used a version of the tii’s four but with a lower, 6.9 compression ratio and a KKK turbo. This combo was good for 170 HP, 180 torques, and a 0-60 MPH time of 6.9 seconds—supercar territory in the early seventies. With only just under 1,700 ever built, the Turbo’s scarcity and insane, uber-shoe box style make it one of the most special Beemers to ever roll out off the production line.

We recently dug up this amazing German market brochure, which is simply too cool not to share. Our favorite part has to be that incredibly clean, simple dash—Dieter Rams himself couldn’t improve on its pure functionality and beauty of form.
