One look at these well-designed, colorful vintage ads and photos of the Mercedes L 319 Transporter utility van or truck and you’ll nearly forget that just over five years earlier the company was at full-tilt creating machines for war—that’s a story for another time.
The L 319 was produced in direct response to the German Federal Minister of Economics, Ludwig Erhardt. He had called upon his countrymen to get Germany back into motion with a new means of transportation. Mercedes solution provided a modular platform that could fulfil a wide-range of daily functions. Whether it be transporting goods, people, construction jobs, and even fire trucks, the L 319 was the “people’s worker car”.
A glance at the campaign materials and you’ll be well versed in just about everything the L 319 is capable of: food deliveries, shipping supplies, and a mechanic’s best mobile workshop.
