Design and color have a large part to play in the history of the automotive world. Here, we’ve married the two things together for the purpose of showcasing their influences on automotive culture.
Some facts about bright red cars:
Rosso Corsa is the red international motor racing color of cars entered by teams from Italy. Since the 1920s, Italian race cars of Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and later Ferrari and Abarth have been painted with a color known as rosso corsa (racing red). National colors were mostly replaced in Formula One by commercial sponsor liveries in 1968, but unlike most other teams, Ferrari always kept the traditional red, although the shade of the color varies.
It is a common belief in the United States that red cars are stopped for speeding more often than other color cars. However, there is no statistical evidence that this is true. The one survey that was made on this subject in 1990 by a St. Petersburg, Florida newspaper showed that the number of speeding tickets given to drivers of red cars was about the same as the proportion of red cars on the road in the community.
10% of cars on the road are bright red.
