The talented alumni of Pasadena’s ArtCenter College of Design can be found shaping more than just the aesthetic end of the world of objects we live in, and seeing as a great deal of them have contributed to the work of foreign and domestic manufacturers it’s only fitting that the school’s annual Car Classic show will put a special focus on alumni work for the 2018 edition.
Graduates of the college have a long history of designing avant garde automobiles, and the show will feature almost a century’s worth of production and concept cars along with motorcycles that ArtCenter has played some role in, like Peter Brock’s (of Datsun BRE fame) prototype for DeTomaso, Henrik Fisker’s EMotion electric sports car, and Michelle Christensen’s modern NSX. There will be dozens of other cars in attendance at the college’s beautiful home perched up in Pasadena outside of downtown Los Angeles.
We’ll have a space set up to sell merchandise and coffee for the upcoming show on Sunday, October 28th, and we’d love to see you there when we inevitably take a break and wander amongst the cars. Tickets are $40 at the door, $30 if you buy online ahead of time, but it’s just $20 for our Petrolicious audience—use this link to purchase tickets with your discount. Onsite parking is $25 per car, kids 12 and under get in free.
We’ve been attending the show each year for a while now, and it’s proven itself enough times in a row now that banking on anything but a special group of cars (like last year’s collection from the Italian, American, and French theme) and a great bunch of people (many of the cars’ designers will be in the audience, and the vibe is friendly and unpretentious), so if you’re trying to find a nice relaxing way to ward off the hangover from Saturday night’s Halloween party, or just want to spend a wholesome day with friends and family and some one-of-one concept cars, this is where you’ll find us on the 28th.
