The cars and dice will be rolling and the Macallan whiskey will be flowing at the 4th Annual Cars & Casino Fundraiser on May 13 at ICON Workshop (of ICON 4×4 fame) in Chatsworth, CA.
The more financially perilous version—should you decide to sit at certain tables—of Cars & Coffee is all for a mighty fine cause though: the GO Campaign. Scott Fifer, CEO of the non-profit, hopes for the GO Campaign to “transform communities, one child at a time.”
GO Campaign helps at-risk children across the world, from East Los Angeles to East Africa. Fifer said that he founded the non-profit to help children who, despite having huge potential, fall through the cracks. Because of the lofty goals and the amount of deserving kids in the world, the GO Campaign is concerned with being as efficient as possible, and, like many charitable organizations, this is one that’s concerned about the waste in the aid industry and seeks to limit this by remaining adaptable, working with other non-profits to fill gaps, and keeping an eagle eye on donor funds and where they get allocated.
Beyond this due diligence though, the GO Campaign’s strength is spotting the best people and projects to support. As part of the non-profit’s strategy to remain sustainable, they work with experts in their field whom they call “Local Heroes.” One of these Heroes, Kailash Satyarthi in India, is the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. His work is at the forefront of ending child slavery and child labor through education and rehabilitation. Satyarthi leads the Bar Ashram Trust, a centre for children rescued from forced labor and trafficking. It is people like Satyarthi who ensure that in addition to gaining vocational skills, those leaving the centre also exit as advocates for children’s rights in their communities.
From providing sanitary products for Congolese girls to help them stay concentrated on their educations, to constructing schools, expanding libraries, and supporting creativity and activism the world over, the GO Campaign’s reach and impact is enormous. It has supported over 200 projects and continues to work tirelessly to transform the lives of children every day.
Jamie and Jonathan Ward, owners and founders of ICON Workshop will be hosting the event at ICON Workshop this weekend. Guests will ogle displays by Arch Motorcycles, Emory, and Singer, enjoy the food vans on site, and perhaps seek out the company of Lady Luck around the roulette table. And it wouldn’t be a charity event in LA to do with cars without the opportunity to bid on a walkthrough of Jay Leno’s personal car collection.
See you there.
The event takes place this Saturday, May 13, 7pm-11pm, at the ICON Workshop: 9601 Lurline Avenue, Chatsworth, CA 991311. For more details and tickets, please email cindy@gocampaign.org
