If rumors circling the internet are to be believed, then we’re going to get a lot more excitement from Alfa Romeo coming in June with an even higher-performance Giulia sedan.
The Italian automaker turns 110 years old this year, and to celebrate, it’s going to have a series of events at its hometown of Milan on June 24. And those rumors suggest Alfa will unveil a Giulia GTA, a lightened and more powerful version of its current 503hp sedan. GTA stands for ‘Gran Tourismo Alleggerita’, and the last word is Italian for ‘lightened’. Sources from FCA suggest the newboy will weigh in around 20kg less than the current Giulia Quadrifoglio, probably with extensive use of carbon fiber.
On top of that, we can expect the power to bump up to an astounding 620hp with a massaging of the Ferrari-derived 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood (take that, BMW). It will allegedly only be available with an eight-speed ZF transmission and, if the chatter is to be believed, will only be available in limited numbers in Europe.
We should mention though that Alfa Romeo has repeatedly denied questions about a possible GTA unveil, so take these rumors with the proverbial grain of salt.
