Porsche has been associated with Le Mans since the 356 debuted in 1951, with the 919 Hybrid the most recent winner, in 2015, 2016 and 2017. After that last victory, Porsche pulled out of the Le Mans LMP1 class. Now Porsche is celebrating Le Mans with the “24 Minutes of Le Mans”, a series of 24 audio stories recorded on vinyl. Best of all, the vinyl has been pressed from the final set of tires from the winning 919 Hybrid, driven by Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley. The 24 stories include Dr Wolfgang Porsche describing his experiences at the race as a boy, Chad McQueen talking about sitting on his father’s lap in a race car, and Hans-Joachim Stuck living through one of Porsche’s biggest tragedies, the death of his friend Jo Gartner, once again.
Just 200 copies are to be made, with numbers 1 to 24 of the 200 going up for auction, and the proceeds being donated to Loisirs Pluriel in Le Mans, an organisation supporting disabled children all over France. The auction starts on February 24 at midnight, central European time. Clearly they’re going to sell fast, but you can hear the full 24 minutes digitally, on Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Deezer and Amazon Music. Just search for “The 24 Minutes of Le Mans”.
