Uwe Fischer’s 1977 BMW R100S may not be a rider’s first choice in a classic touring motorcycle, but for Uwe, it was a hidden gem just waiting for a bit of extra polish. Why? When he bought this KnoScher-styled motorcycle from an older man, the looks were “way too retro”.
“It was a very unsexy red and gold pinstriped—really retro—but not my style,” he describes. “It had all the nice things, the old, beautiful engine with holes in the air box. Gold painted wheels and forks, in good used condition with quite a lot of patina”.
“Too good of a condition to restore and paint. So keep the patina,” he adds.
You’ll notice some accessories as well: Tomaselli handlebars, Raask foot pegs, Hattech exhaust, and Uwe got its blinkers and speedometer from the firm Motogadget. With the rear of the bike shortened and “massaged,” plus a unique saddle, this R100S has been modified enough to bring out some extra style and performance—but not at the expense of losing what the motorcycle does well in the first place.
Thanks to Uwe Fischer for sending over a selection of photos he took of this motorcycle. We recently visited his garage, too.
Nice bike , but far from a /sexy Tourer , unless maybe you have the supple spine of a 16 year old. I like the fact that he has taken a nice old motorcycle and is using it as it may have been intended, but I’ll bet he is not riding it any distance further than to the local cafe’ or the occasional weekend meet up . The bit’s and pieces he has added are neat, and granted you can tour on anything as long as you can stand the pain.
