On Thursday, we reported that the 70th edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, originally scheduled for August 16 this year, has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Today, we learned of two other major cancellations; The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and its sister event, The Quail, A Motorcycle Gathering, have both been axed for this year.

The Motorcycle Gathering and Quail Ride, which brings together classic motorcycles from around the world, was originally planned for May 14 at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California. The Motorsports Gathering meanwhile would have been August 15 and 16 at the same venue, bringing together vintage racers and automobiles.

“Now is a time to stay home and stay safe,” says Kai Lermen, general manager of Quail Lodge & Golf Club. “The Quail will return in 2021 with all the grandeur, elegance, and excitement for which the event is renowned for. At that time, we will truly have much to honor and celebrate in the motoring world.”

On top of this, Bonhams also has cancelled its accompanying 23rd Quail Lodge Auction for August 13 and 14, but does plan to hold an alternate auction in California around this time.

While this is sad news, there are already plans for next year’s events, with the Motorcycle Gathering scheduled for May 15 and 16 and the Motorsports Gathering on Friday, August 13. At least we have those for which to look forward.
