The museum, possibly the premier auto showcase in North America, is based in Los Angeles but of course has temporarily closed its doors due to the Covid-19 virus outbreak. Instead, it’s offering virtual tours of The Vault, its collection of more than 250 vehicles that span the life of the automobile, from early 20th century to today. A collection that includes rare cars owned by celebrities and heads of state, cars that changed technology, and race cars of all eras.
Starting from March 25, the one-hour live-streamed tours will also field questions and comments from online viewers as Petersen staff take you around the vehicles.
Let’s not forget the kids, and the Petersen will also host online activities for children 12 and under. For the younger folk, these range from a story book reading to coloring activities to building your own model car with common household objects. For kids a little older, there are online lessons covering automobile history, car design and engine tech, and even a hands-on lesson on clay modeling. To assist with its lessons, the museum supplies downloadable materials you can print at home.
