Dutch Artist Paints Classics with a Modern Twist

When we hear the words “automotive art,” it’s natural to assume a painting or a sculpture. But Dutch artist Ron de Haer takes a more modern approach to his expression, utilizing digital paint and virtual brushes to create incredibly detailed illustrations of classic cars.

Like many an artist, his early works were pencil-and-paper sketches, though he eventually became talented as an airbrush illustrator as well. A graphic designer for more than twenty years, he now uses the tools of his trade – namely Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop – to render his passions on the screen before committing them to canvas for final output. Prints of his work are available for sale on request, but de Haer also accepts commissions, of which he produces only a single copy, preserving their status as original works of art.

An avid enthusiast of both European and American cars – his personal driver is a ’71 Ford Capri – de Haer’s work focuses heavily on subjects from the ‘60s, spanning everything from Ferrari GTOs to Plymouth GTXs.
