A Jaguar E-Type, famously associated with the 1971 British crime classic Get Carter starring Michael Caine, recently sold for an impressive £155,250 at auction. This iconic sports car, celebrated for its sleek design and potent performance, gained additional allure due to its appearance in the cult film. The vehicle’s cinematic heritage and status as a symbol of 1960s and 70s British style contributed to its significant valuation, marking it as a prized collector’s item.

That was implicated in the infamous ‘one-armed bandit murder’ of 1967, which inspired the film Get Carter and was referred to in Mark Knopfler’s song 5:15am has sold for £155,250 at an H&H Classics sale at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, UK.
The Jaguar E-type was sold new to fruit machine king Vince Landa, who fell foul of the infamous Kray Twins when they accused him of installing slot machines in some of their clubs. Embroiled in the so-called “one armed bandit murder’ that saw Social Club Services’ employee Angus Sibbert shot dead on 4 January 1967, Jaguar E-type LGT 788D is said to have been driven that night by Landa’s brother Michael Luvaglio and Dennis Stafford, who were subsequently convicted of the crime. Luvaglio and Stafford have long protested their innocence. This became the inspiration for Get Carter and 5.15am.
The sale featured 20 Jaguars in all, including an XK150 that sold for £138,000. Other stars of the sale included a 1943 International Harvester M5 Half-Track Personnel Carrier used during the Allied liberation of Europe. Also made £138,000, a barn-find right-hand drive 1954 Mercedes 300 B Adenauer Cabriolet. Thought to be one of just seven right hand drive versions built – for £106,904. and an 82-mile Hillman Imp Californian that sold for £21,160.
