This is the first view of McLaren’s imminent “Grand Tourer”, the fourth McLaren to be revealed under the company’s Track25 business plan. Sure, it’s still under a camouflage wrap but the shape-changing, additional body panels previously used to hide its design have now been removed.  This allows McLaren to move into final road-testing of the camouflaged car, with a promise that the disguise will be removed in May.

The development car has already undergone thousands of miles in hot and cold climates across the world with the extra shape-changing and noise-inducing panels in place, the emphasis being on proving its ability to cover long distances in comfort. With the panels removed, McLaren’s Development Team will drive the car 1000 miles from McLaren’s development base near Barcelona, Spain, back to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England in one stint with two occupants and a full complement of luggage.

McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt has promised that this, the fourth car to be launched under the company’s Track25 Business Plan, will combine “competition levels of performance from a twin-turbo V8 engine with continent-crossing capability and a level of agility never experienced before in the luxury Grand Tourer segment”. He has stated that the McLaren of Grand Tourers will be the most usable mid-engined car yet, and the only one to share its DNA with a Hyper-GT: McLaren’s Speedtail.  Its name has yet to be revealed but we know that it won’t be an existing model Series and will be a unique, tailored model with, McLaren says, a spacious, uncluttered and modern interior with only authentic, high quality materials employed.
