If there has been a more anticipated car-based movie in recent years than the upcoming Ford Vs. Ferrari film then we sure can’t think of what it might be. The story of how Ford triumphed over Ferrari in its heyday at one of the most grueling endurance races in the world is a fascinating one and a whole new generation of fans will be able to experience the journey when the movie is released in theaters on November 15. To celebrate the occasion, the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is promoting a display of five pivotal cars from that era.

They are a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB SEFAC, a 1957 Ferrari 625/250 Testa Rossa, a 1962 Shelby Cobra (the first ever produced), a 1952 Ferrari 212/225 Barchetta and a 1967 Ford GT40 Mark III.

The cars form part of various exhibits throughout the museum and all are pivotal to the story of how Ford triumphed over Ferrari at Le Mans. The Ferrari 250 GT SWB, Ferrari 625/250 Testa Rossa and Shelby Cobra are currently on display in the “Winning Numbers” exhibit, which is a selection of some of the fastest and the most famous road and race cars from the private collection of Petersen Founding Chairman Bruce Meyer.

Interestingly, the Ferrari 250 GT and Ferrari Testa Rossa on display both appeared in the film itself.

“The story of Ford’s triumph over Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans will be told for generations,” said Petersen Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “We’re excited to see the film, but we’re most excited to offer fans of the movie an opportunity to see the cars that will be in the film and learn about other vehicles that are pivotal to the ‘Ford v Ferrari’ back story.”

While there are still two weeks to go before the movie hits the big screen, those fans who are fortunate enough to live close to the Petersen Museum can get to see these iconic cars up close before heading to the cinema.
