How Are You Watching The 24 Hours of Le Mans?

It’s a big year at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. From the return of the factory Ford GTs exactly 50 years after their historic win to the recent (as of a few hours ago) post-qualifying rule changes that should keep the race up for grabs until the race is in its last minute. So how best to watch the action unfold live?

If you’ve got cable TV and a modern set-top box, a quick search of the guide should reveal a few time slots where you can watch the race live. But since sports car racing isn’t covered extensively in the U.S., you probably won’t be able to turn the channel and watch all 24 hours. What then?

A number of solutions and workarounds exist, but here’s what we’ll be doing once the green flag drops this weekend. Share how you’ll be watching the race in the comments!

Before the race: just read this awesome post on Reddit. And download the free spotter’s guide from Andy Blackmore Design, we’ve been reading them for years and they’re fantastic…obsessively so!

During the race: Thankfully, the FIA World Endurance Championship relies on none of the outdated broadcast contracts that Formula 1 does, which means watching the race is easy: Go here and pay 9,99€. You’re able to watch every session, replays, change the camera angles, and watch on multiple devices. You can also listen to Radio Le Mans. Live timing is here. If you’d like to do some gaming, er, watch some gaming, Audi and Forza Motorsport have teamed up to run an actual, virtual, 24 Hour race.

“Watch as more than 35 drivers engage in a grueling track battle…” Audi says. Sounds like fun. Many automakers are streaming the race from their onboard cameras as well, including: Ford, Porsche, and Audi.

In any event, keep looking at our Facebook, Instagram, and website as this year’s action unfolds. It’ll be fun to follow along with you.

FOX Sports, with its constant last-second channel changes and advertising breaks, is rubbish. I used FOX Sports Go to watch online from a home theater PC. This offered an uninterrupted stream of the race, with viewing choices of the “main” race feed and a couple of the Corvettes’ and Ford GTs’ on-board streams (with higher quality video than these manufacturers’ YouTube streams, no less, and no, there was not an issue on my end causing that, as I have Google Fiber for my ISP and my computer was wired directly into their equipment). I wish I had remembered about the streams offered by Audi and Porsche. I forgot about those!

I watched most of the race on cable TV . During the far too frequent commercial breaks I got the live stream on line. Great race terrific coverage, heart break ending for Toyota, but the superb effort by FORD made me smile.

I’ve been there for the 25th year in a row. Apart from going there the best option is the FIA WEC app. For every WEC race this a very efficient tool for following the race. If you pay you have the full live streaming with radio le mans’s experts on the comments plus some onboards cams anytime. But the free version already gives you the live timing plus some vids. Some website also proposed livetext. It is a good complement even when you are physically on the circuit.

Amazing race this year, incredible finish really really hard for Toyota who have done an fantastic job this year. They deserved it but Le Mans chooses its winner and it is sometimes cruel…

Yes to the FIA WEC live stream. Fox Sports switched coverage all around again this year. The WEC live stream was great.
