This year’s three-day Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC was arguably the most successful yet, with a huge variety of cars and motorcycles, a successful auction, thriving dealer and autojumble areas, and a crowd-pleasing theatre area dominated by hard-working Wheeler Dealers stars Mike Wheeler and Ant Anstead – with guest appearances from Salvage Hunters’ Drew Pritchard and Car SOS’s Fuzz Townshend among others.
Vast Range at the NEC: Classic Motor
Obvious highlights included the Ferrari Owners Club 70 years of Ferrari line-up. An official Porsche display that celebrated 40 years of the 928 with a guest appearance from legendary driver Richard Attwood. And the (very shiny) Meguiar’s Club Showcase stand, the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership display. Also,the excellent restoration technique displays.
But scratch deeper and there were further surprises, such as Allard’s charming ‘Allardette’ Ford Anglia. The first ever Lotus Excel off the production line and much more.
Classics of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s
Two of the five halls were perhaps too packed with club displays and autojumble stands. But that did make for a remarkable breadth of cars on show, from the De Dion Club’s line-up of motorised tricycles (which the owners race!). Through established classics of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s. To the yet-to-be-released new TVR Griffith, which joined an excellent line-up of classic TVRs on the TVR Club’s stand.
Silverstone Auctions had a highly successful sale and dealers reported healthy sales. Including Graeme Hunt, who sold several top-end cars including a $296,000 Bentley.
AutoClassics had a stand in hall 1, offering the chance to win a fantastic $10200 Amalgam 1:8 Ferrari F40 model.
