Is Rally Vermentino In Sardinia The Prettiest Setting For A Race?

Out of the blue, our friend Luca Garau recently sent over some photos of an event he’d attended in Sicily called the Vermentino Rally. Once we picked our jaws off the floor, we figured you’d like to take in a smaller regional event that puts sideways action mere feet from its spectators.

According to Luca, the event is held on roads that run between Berchidda, Monti and Telti, which are three northern Sardinian villages famous for their white wines. Here, slippery tarmac roads are surrounded by vineyards and fields are covered in Mediterranean scrub, and naturally, photographers have a varied backdrop for capturing shots of historic machines being taken to the limit.

Don’t the Fiat-Abarth 131 Rally cars look perfectly at home here?

Great photos and of course the location is beautiful but those wheels are just wrong on a 131 Rally car.
Sorry but I hate vintage cars with wheels that are not period correct.

Is it one of the prettiest settings for an event ? Why of course it is . Sardinia is one of the most beautiful spots on the planet . But the prettiest setting for a ‘ race ‘ … as in a genuinely contested with actual competition race ? I’ll hold judgement on that one till a ‘ race ‘ has actually happened there . Cause this aint no race … nor is it [ other than perhaps a TSD ] a rally either . Its an ‘ event ‘ plain and simple … albeit a very scenic ‘ event ‘ with some incredible Group 4 and Group B rally cars participating .. and theres even an AutoDelta Alfetta GT in the mix to boot .. along with a couple of those ubiquitous at Italian events misfit AutoBianchi’s …so call it what it is … an event not a race …. and I’d be smiling from the get go !

Great photos by the way !
