Owners of the beloved classic Mini are invited to take part in a World Record as part of celebrations for the model’s 60th anniversary. It’s hoped that over 600 classic Minis will invade the grounds of Gaydon’s British Motor Museum to secure the Classic Mini Mosaic World Record on Saturday August 3. Featuring as an opener to the venue’s National Metro & Mini show, participants in the World Record attempt will park to spell out the words ‘Mini 60’. The record attempt will be filmed from above, marking six decades since the first ever production Mini set forth from the factory floor. This first Mini will attend, as will the last Mini ever made at Longbridge and the Monte-Carlo Rally winning Minis of 1964, 1965 and 1967.
All classic Minis manufactured between 1959 and 2000 are eligible for the record attempt, including Cooper, Clubman and Countryman editions. In addition to saloons, van and pick-up Minis are also welcome as are the more unusual Marcos, Moke, Scamp and Wild Goose configurations. Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet Mini derivatives are also invited.
Following the World Record attempt is the National Metro & Mini show on Sunday August 4, which will be supported by a variety of Mini clubs including the 59 Register, the Mini Traveller and Countryman Register and the Cooper Sport 500 Register. The show will commemorate 25 years since production of the Rover 100 closed, with the very last Rover 100–which has since been signed by some 1200 people involved in Metro production–making a rare appearance at the event. The British Motor Museum is offering entry to both the record attempt and the National Metro & Mini Show for just £7. Tickets will allow entry to the World Record attempt for one eligible vehicle, entry to the National Metro & Mini Show and museum admission for the driver and a passenger across the weekend.
