Petrolicious is no stranger to the lawns of concours around the world, but rarely do we play an active role in the outcome of these competitions. However, next weekend (July 6-8), our founder and CEO Afshin Behnia will be among the members of the jury tasked with the difficult decision of picking the top cars from a lineup that’s defined by the word “exceptional.” With prototypes parked next to veterans of early motorsport, residents of the Ferrari museum sharing a coastal view with cars fresh from the shores of Lake Como, the third edition of the Poltu Quatu Classic will be a pretty peachy day at work for the man behind our brand.
In addition to the official Ferrari collection, a number of internationally significant museums will be bringing their heavyweights out to play in the sun on the Sardinian coast. The island’s Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu will play host to cars from the Nicolis Museum of Villafranca, the Righini Collection, the Lopresto Collection, and other machines from notable private holdings which include everything from Alfa Romeo 8Cs once piloted by Nuvolari, to Fiat Jollys on the more playful side of the equation.
Participants in the concours will also travel to the island’s historic villages, enjoy tastings at local vineyards, and have the opportunity to drive their automobiles along the coastline’s beautiful natural scenery. If it sounds like a rather lavish way to spend a few days in the Mediterranean you’re absolutely right—indulging in this side of the classic car world takes nothing away from the days spent under the chassis swearing at stuck bolts, it’s just another side of the spectrum that all exists for the simple love we share for machines, engineering, and design. We do it all, we love it all, and sure, sometimes a flute of champagne and a view of the sea beats a day in the garage. It’s all about balance, and this event will surely tip the scales toward the glamorous end.
