Lewis Hamilton’s F1 Mercedes Leads Line Up At This Sunday’s First Bicester Heritage Super Scramble

There is a new attraction on the calendar for motoring enthusiasts, which combines live demonstrations and static displays of a wide selection of some 120 cars, as well as an autojumble and interactive art exhibition. And furthermore, Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 Mercedes and the multiple record-winning 1933 24-liter Napier Railton are set to be its stars of the show. The event in question is the inaugural Bicester Heritage Super Scramble, which is happening this Sunday, June 23. It takes place at the world-famous automotive hub complex in Bicester, Oxfordshire in the UK, which also hosted the recent Petrolicious Drivers’ Meeting. It’s expected to attract around 6000 visitors.

More than 80 of the vehicles will be making demonstration runs on the site’s test track throughout the day of the event, while around 40 historic cars will be on display. This latter group is led by Hamilton’s 2013 Mercedes-AMG F1 V8 from the Mercedes-AMG F1 Collection. This is a car from Hamilton’s first year with the Mercedes team after moving from McLaren, and can be said to be the starting point of his current ongoing F1 dominance with the Mercedes team.

The Mercedes will be joined by the Brooklands Napier Railton. This car was commissioned by driver John Cobb, designed by Reid Railton, and built by Thomson and Taylor at their engineering works within the famous Brooklands circuit. Cobb and his co-drivers achieved many world speed records with the car, likely the most notable being the 24 hour record of 150.6mph set on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1936. The car also in 1935 set the all-time Brooklands lap record at 143.44mph, again in Cobb’s hands.

An eclectic mix of rare cars from private collections will also be at the Bicester event, from famous hill climb and rally cars to hot-rod sand racers, European coach-built classics and manufacturer prototypes. Visitors will be able to wander freely around the vehicles to get a close-up experience as the cars are prepared and warmed up before taking to the circuit. In addition, the first Bicester Autojumble will be held at the Super Scramble event, as will the inaugural Art of Transport exhibition, which will be a live and interactive installation of automotive artists’ studios, and there even will be workshops and seminars throughout the day. There also will be kids club go-karts.

“The Super Scramble will celebrate the heritage of our rich automotive culture, offering sights and sounds to enthusiasts young and old,” said Bicester Heritage managing director Daniel Geoghegan. “Bicester Heritage’s philosophy of inclusivity and family appeal has shaped this Super Scramble and we look forward to what promises to be a memorable feast for the eyes and ears alike.”

They also are strictly limited to 6000 and expected to sell out before the event; indeed the first run has already sold out with the second release now available.
