Petrolicious Has a New Managing Editor

As you may have noticed over the last two weeks, there’s a new byline (and commenter!) on Petrolicious. I’m honored to join the team here as managing editor, and like many of you, I’ve been a fan of this publication from the beginning.

I find it difficult to talk about myself—my partner Kayleigh is no doubt rolling her eyes right now—so I’ll keep this short and sweet. I’m most interested in subjects with a backstory, ones that, even in a small way, may have done things differently. This applies to cars, airplanes, music, art, technology… Two things that most interest me as we plan on the next few months here at Petrolicious is that we’re not just a car publication, and that we’re often able to run unique stories that you won’t find anywhere else.

Classic car enthusiasts are everywhere, and from my experience, we’re as diverse a group as you’ll find. Through the last 100-plus years, the automobile has conquered nearly every corner of the globe, often spilling into popular culture. Music, film, design, and literature often intersect with cars, but so too do architecture, travel, politics, and religion. Telling stories about these connections is what I hope to accomplish here.

I’ve been extremely fortunate to drive some of the most world’s most lauded machines, from the Lamborghini Countach to the Messerschmitt KR200 and Peel P50…OK, maybe ‘lauded’ isn’t quite the right word to describe the P50. Rest assured, I’m a car enthusiast, and you’ll soon read stories of my briefly-owned Citroën 2CV and my still-in-the-family ’73 Porsche 914 2.0-litre. As far as dream cars are concerned, my thoughts tend to wander to vehicles that are any combination of small, fast, and light, but I have been known to daydream about vast ’70s American personal coupes and the imposing Toyota Mega Cruiser.

Feel free to follow me on Twitter, or send me an email. We have a long, exciting road ahead and I know you’ll be delighted with the stories we uncover together.

This is also a great time to ask you a question: what has been your favorite story on Petrolicious? (And if you have a great story, please submit it!)

By the way Michael, you ask the question, “What was your favorite story on Petro?” Back on July 9, 2013 was a film about a gentleman named Pieratonio Micciarelli that owns a Fiat 2300 S Coupe. I’ve watched that film so many times that I am surprised Petrolicious has not blocked me off the website entirely! The pleasure that Pieratonio finds in driving his car is just nothing less than fantastic. He loves that car and treasures it as much as any Ferrari, Porsche, or……….well ANY car for that matter. All the films on this site are great but that one has always been my favorite!

Jim, you may have the record for the number views of that film, I think I am a close second. It is by far my favourite and I keep going back to it.

Super cool news, brother. Good for you.

Though I mostly lurk here, I’ve long enjoyed the deeper sense of appreciation of the stories behind the machines on this site. It’s what keeps me coming back. Your insights, combined with a team which has already proven itself one of exceptional taste, only stands to make things even more inspiring.

I’m looking forward to it.
