Porsche Is To Honor Belgian Racing Legend Jacky Ickx With A Rather Special 75th Birthday Present

Thanks to an extremely varied and succesful racing career over more than three decades, Belgian-born Jackie Ickx has long been a legendary figure in motorsport, with his achievements spanning such diverse disciplines as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Formula 1 and the Paris-Dakar Rally. The great man is celebrating his 75th birthday next year and to honor him Porsche will be building 75 special edition 911 Carrera 4S models for 2020.

Named the ‘Belgian Legend Edition’, each 911 will be packed with a host of exclusive features such as the X Blue exterior color, which is identical to the colour on Ickx’s crash helmet. The car also features a unique wheel design with a white stripe, a badge with the Belgian flag as well as Jacky Ickx’s name and signature on the driver’s side B-pillar. Inside, the central armrest is embossed with another signature and the door cards and sport seats have a Pebble Grey accent.

Each of the 75 cars will be presented with a photobook stating the chassis number and a letter signed by Jacky Ickx. Owners who spend more time at their office desks than out on the open road will be pleased to hear that they will also receive a miniature replica 911 complete with vehicle identification number.

No mechanical changes have been made to the 450hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer six-cylinder engine; it is already plenty quick enough in standard form. We do however hope that most owners will opt for the manual transmission option (which should be available by next year), because Mr Ickx would surely prefer it that way. Porsche has not said yet whether it will offer Ickx one of the 75 cars but it would make for a great birthday present if they did.

Prices for the 911 Carrera 4S ‘Belgian Legend Edition’ start at €199,911 ($218,959), and it is available from official Porsche centers in Belgium. The 911 at the end of that figure is unlikely to be a coincidence but the 959 in the dollar equivalent at the time of writing most definitely is.
