The car

As part of its Private Sales initiative, Petrolicious is proud to offer a unique collector-grade Ferrari. The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, represented the epitome of front-mounted V12 Ferraris from 1968 to 1996. Launched in 1968, it marked the only front-mounted V12, 2-seater Ferrari for almost 30 years. The car featured a 4.4L, 352-horsepower V12 Colombo engine (the penultimate model to utilize this engine), clear-lensed headlights, and circular rear lights.

This car, born in stunning Marrone Metallizzato paint (on black interior), benefitted from very special treatment from Ferrari, as it was once owned by a relative of Didier Pirroni (Formula 1 driver for Ferrari in the early 80’s), who directly commissioned his employer to perform a nut-and-bolt restoration on this Daytona. This resulted in what is arguably one of the earliest known restoration projects undergone by Ferrari.

The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona initially featured fixed headlights behind a plexiglass cover (Plexi) for a sleek, streamlined front-end design. However, in 1971, regulatory changes (particularly in the U.S.) required Ferrari to replace these with pop-up headlights to meet new safety standards, as the Plexi setup was deemed less durable. The change created a subtle design shift, with the Plexi version now considered more desirable among collectors due to its rarity and, arguably cleaner, more distinctive look.

Condition | exterior

Body – All panels are original and matching on this Ferrari. The vehicle has never been involved in any road incident, and no corrosion is noted on or under the car. The front bumper, side skirts, and air intakes are free of rock chips or scratches; no Paint Protection Film is applied to the car.

Underbody – Pictures of the undercarriage are available on demand, showing no signs of corrosion, as this car has spent all of its life in a dry and non-humid environment.

Paint – This Ferrari 365 GTB/4 rolled off the production line in stunning, and extremely rare Marrone Metallizzato paint (on black interior). However, the car has been repainted in a more traditional Rosso Corsa shade (with tan interior), after undergoing a full nut-and-bolt restoration at the Ferrari factory in 1981. It has only covered 6,560 kilometers since this restoration, and the paint is still looking incredible, even after all those years.

Wheels – The wheels are original units and have been refinished and show little to no signs of usage.

Dashboard & Instrumentation – The dashboard and instruments are original to the car, post restoration. The speedometer and odometer are both shown in metric units (kilometers), as this example was originally delivered in Belgium through the official distributor, Garages Francorchamps.

Seats, Trim, & Carpet – The materials inside #13309 are fully original. Carpets, seats, headliners, and leather: everything in the car’s cockpit is original and has been treated with the utmost care throughout its life.

Door sills – Both door sills are in impeccable condition, showing little to no scuff marks or scratches.

Keys, Instruction Manuals, tools – Two original keys are included with the car. Instruction manuals are also accompanied, but original Ferrari tools are absent from the lot.

Servicing history – Ferrari 365 GTB/4 #13309 spent all of its post-restoration life in France (1990 – ). Our thoughts on this Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona “Plexi”

Our Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona #13309 is an overall solid, honest and fairly priced example of the last model to leave the Maranello factory with a front-mounted V12, 2-seater configuration for nearly 3 decades in the 1970’s. It shows superbly, even 40 years after its full nut-and-bolt restoration performed by Ferrari, which, as we suspect, was almost a first of its kind for the manufacturer. Moreover, the car’s close ties with Didier Pirroni endow it with a uniqueness that’s very difficult to find elsewhere.

Lastly, if the factory restoration and Pirroni story cannot convince you enough of this car’s specialness, let us remind you that it is one of the original 76 cars delivered in the splendid shade of Marrone Metallizzato, and that it can be brought back to this colour in only a few steps.
