THE CAR
Petrolicious Private Sales is proud to have sold a unique collector-grade Ferrari: a remarkable Ferrari 250 GTO crafted by Carrozzeria Allegretti. Since rebodying the Ferrari 250 GTO chassis #3445GT under Carrozzeria Sports Cars after its crash in the 1980’s, Mario Allegretti has been renowned in the car world for expertly replicating what is arguably considered the most expensive Ferrari in the world.
The example we sourced, based on the Ferrari 250 Lusso S/N #5243, was realized in the mid-1980s by Carrozzeria Allegretti, and Mario himself performed the bodywork. The engine, which has been completely built and tuned to Dry Sump specification, was originally found in Ferrari 250 Lusso S/N #5589, whereas the chassis and transmission originate from #5243. The mechanical overhaul was performed by Livio Guarnieri & Giorgio Schoen of Milan, Italy. These Allegretti 250 GTOs are eligible to many of the world’s great automotive events and races, including Goodwood.
Faithful recreations of significant historical cars will always have a place in our hearts: it is, after all, quite difficult to ignore the passion and craftsmanship of the individuals behind these automobiles.
