Relive Goodwood’s Glorious History Before This Weekend’s Revival

This weekend marks the return of the Goodwood Revival, the yearly celebration of all that is classic, speedy, and noteworthy. We’ll be on hand to cover the action, but before we do, it’s important to note why we’re so excited to be there this year: it’s a place where history is made.

From its beginnings as a hillclimb to its evolution to circuit racing, a gradual decline, and a measured resurrection, Goodwood has been about two things: the joy of driving and the joy of competition. Here are some moments from the past that have us excited to see what’s in store this year.

This clip is named, simply, “Hill Wins”. As of this writing, it has fewer than 300 views on YouTube. From Shelby Cobras spinning out to Graham Hill hauling ass in a classic Ferrari 330 P. It’s like your favorite car auction lineup whizzing past at more than 100 mph!

I’m not sure how to describe this film, which, judging by its YouTube description, was produced in period by the Vintage Sports Car-Club (VSCC). Year? 1963. It’s an awesome look at the way things used to be—it’s just a shame the soundtrack is so irritating.

British cars win at Goodwood—which is period newsreel footage of a 9-Hour car race held at the circuit in 1952—is literally edge-of-your-seat riveting.

Goodwood itself is a wonderful place to watch car films—this is a playlist featuring some of the more interesting vehicles that Goodwood has seen.

The debut of Connaught Engineering’s world-class Formula 1 car took place at Goodwood in 1954, a vehicle that often ran well but couldn’t find success at any of the really “big” races.

Don’t know where to watch this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed? From June 23-26, this is where to do it.

Dear Mr Banofsky,

Confusing the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the Goodwood Revival Meeting is deemed a serious crime among vintage car enthusiasts over here in good old Europe.

However, you can compensate for this by providing us another video featuring, say: Brian Bent and one of his specials.

Now that Porsches have had their more than fair share (in my opinion), you might consider to pamper the prewar car lovers once again…

Best regards

The first video isn’t the one described.

Thanks for the videos but the car Graham Hill is driving is the Rover-BRM turbine engined car which he co-drove with Richie Ginther.

Geeze, man. FOS is this weekend, not Revival. And for the record Members’ Meeting is in March.

Yes it’s the Festival of Speed this weekend. The Revival is in September.

This weekend is not the Goodwood Revival, it’s the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The two events are vastly different. A rather glaring error I might add !
