Last year, the Mille Miglia organizers hosted the US 1000 Miglia Warm-Up event and it was so well received that for 2019 they will be running the very first formal competition event outside of Italy. This year there will also be a one-day Warm Up USA training event taking place on October 23rd followed by a three-day USA Championship race covering over 500 miles starting in Middleburg, Virginia and ending up in Washington DC. The 40 entrants will be competing for the inaugural Coppa USA (USA Cup) as well as eight guaranteed entries into the Mille Miglia in May 2020.
Vehicles will be divided into Mille Miglia era and post-Mille Miglia era classes. The first class will be open to any cars built between 1927 and 1957 that were eligible for the Mille Miglia during that period and will also incorporate significant sports cars and grand tourers built during that same time. The second class will be open to sports cars, GTs and supercars built from 1958 to the present. Crews will also be divided into novice and veteran categories; those who have competed in two or more Mille Miglia events since 2013 will fall into the latter category.
The warm-up event will be taking place at Summit Point Motorsports Park. Entrants will get a roadbook and regularity rally training with Mille Miglia instructors on the challenging Shenandoah track. The event will offer a similar ‘Spirit of Mille Miglia’ experience as the original, and competitors will be treated to the very best hospitality, stunning roads and historic locations that the region has to offer. Entries for the event are now open until September 9. Further details can be found on the organizer’s website.
