Owner: Faisal Huda

Year, Make, and Model: 1969 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Photographer: Lucas Scarfone

Growing up, his favorite toy had been a yellow (then pronounced “lello”) car. It was lost one day and while Mr. Faisal Huda was sad for a while, he eventually forgot about it. Years later he fell in love with this car, a 1969 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior, originally colored Giallo Ocra (Ochre Yellow) because it reminded him of the story his parents had recounted about Faisal losing his little yellow car. He happened upon it in Venice, Italy and says it “was like finding my toy 34 years later!”

The car was in stock, original condition when he found it, unsuitable for fast road use as you might find in modern traffic. So, he had the car sent from Italy to the UK, where he commissioned Alfaholics to upgrade the car’s engine and mechanicals.

After Alfaholics completed the work, the car was shipped back to his home in Toronto, Canada in May 2011. He drove the car for a year (stored through winter, of course) after which he experienced a minor fender-bender during the 2012 Alfa Romeo Convention of North America, held in Toronto that year.

“With the damage to the car being unsightly and disappointing, I decided to commission a full body restoration on the car. It was at that point that I decided I’d had enough fun with my lello Car and that if it were painted a bespoke deep Candy Apple Red, that the car’s lines and stance would just pop. The Guild of Automotive Restorers in Canada, famous for their concourse quality workmanship, carried out the body restoration. We also included a refresh of the interior, which brought a level of pure luxury to the interior, with contrasting stitching and Alcantara and leather surfaces.”

Faisal loves to take this car out on dry sunny days, particularly into Ontario’s wine country, not far from Toronto. It is also a great car to take into Northern Ontario with its twisty roads with elevation changes. The car handles so crisply it feels as though it has a sixth-sense as it magnetically hugs the curves and just knows where it is supposed to go.

The car is much admired by whoever sees it. Faisal calls it the “friend maker” because he always seems to make a new friend each time he takes the car out. Of course, the car’s official nickname is “Alfie.” Featured on the first season of History Channel Canada’s show, Restoration Garage, Alfie is also featured in the 2014 BASF calendar as the Nov/Dec feature car.

“Alfie will always be a part of my life, I could never give this car up. It will get new stable-mates over the years, certainly, but the purity, spirit and sporty elegance of this car could never be matched for me.”

Where are the rest of the pics? The original 2014 post had photos of the interior, engine, details, etc. Are those still here somewhere or have they been purged as part of the website re-do?

Hi Faisal,
So many questions for you. Have a ’69 GT Jnr mid build. Motor and driveline done, plenty of Alfaholics & Sharpe Engineering parts in boxes for suspension and steering. Love the paint. Can see you’ve added an oil cooler. Can i get your specs?
Keen to know more,
Cheers,
Ben

Wow..brilliant! Quick questions…what size rims and tyres did you use to give it such an aggressive stance and the other question what suspension did you use to lower it…

phyzul, just watched Restoration Garage featuring your 1300 and was blown away. I have always been a fan of old Alfas and BMWs but your Alphie is one of the most beautiful examples I have ever seen. The color is absolutely the best choice possible and the lines of the car are timeless, a real work of art. I am and artist and an author and design cars in my spare time just for fun. I have a passion for fine automobiles though have not become successful enough yet to really indulge my interest. If I could find one I would definitely buy a car like yours. On a side note, I am working on my third novel, the first two still “sitting in the drawer” waiting to be signed. If anyone out there has a connection in the NYC publishing world they will not be disappointed with my work. The manuscripts are in the mystery/noir/hard-boiled crime genre in the vein of Chandler, Hammett, and the underrated James M. Cain. Whoever discovers these treasures will be happy they did, in the immortal words of Joe Namath, I guarantee it. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Again, love your car.

Hello Stephen, thanks so much for your generous comments. It never gets old coming across someone who appreciates Alfie! I hope you’re able to fulfill your passion for a vintage Alfa sometime soon. In the meantime, all the best for your writing career.

Hello Juan, I’m happy you like the car! The seats are RECARO “Sport” model. The leather upholstery with diamond stitch is custom work made by a professional. The gear shift boot is the original that came in my car when I purchased it… so I don’t have any specific information about it.

Hi Faisal,

Any chance you could give me the colour code for this dark candy apple red,i would love to spray my Gt Junior,as it is in the body shop at the moment for accident repairs

Hello Dario, glad you like the paint work. There is no paint code for this because it was a totally customised paint that the painter and I developed together. We achieved this by first painting the body in a metallic gold paint. Then there is 9 layers of red-tinted clear coat on top of the gold. The amount and shade of red tint in the clear coat will change the final appearance.

Saw this car on the tv show, and cringed hard when they convinced Mr. Huda to have it painted this colour. Giallo Ocra was/is amazing. This is terrible.

Hello: Best restoration of an Alfa I’ve ever seen (OK, next in line to Ralph Lauren’s million dollar one!) There were short shots of the engine…clearly not enough, but from what I could see, it looked like 6 wires off engine itself? Is this a 6 cylinder car?

When this car was built initially and when it was Ocra Yellow, it was one of my all-time favourites. If I compare how it looks today…:D

Alfa are not supposed to look like this! Simply because it doesn’t look good.

This looks great. I know it’s kinda weird but even though I am not that old, honestly, I love it when I saw ancient looking things specially when it has this vintage appearance. Thanks to Fiat because he is very serious about bringing Alfa Romeo back to the U.S with the stunning 4C roadster leading the charge. Since, Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A. is well-known for it’s reputation in building expensive sports cars. These might be a good news for car lovers but somehow bad news for those present car dealer in US. Get more data about Alfa Romeo.

This jumped out at me on my Friday afternoon at work browse through Petrolicious. Stunning. Love the tyres as well. I have the Neovia R on my z3 m coupe, transformed the car, plus the tread looks great with a bit of dust on it. Nice work mate.

Hey Physul,
I lived in Oakville for 46yrs up until 2 years ago. I moved north , just outside of Orillia now, where the roads are perfect, peaceful, smooth, twisty and the scenery is stunning at every bend you take.
I had to get out of the rat race.
Plus the roads are almost designed for vintage cars and bikes up here.
But I’m down in the GTA (Oakville) almost everyday.
Would love to see Alfie one day.

A simply stunning car. I have a GT Veloce in the body shop at the moment and I have been trying to decide between painting it standard Alfa red or going with a deep metallic red. I think this article has helped make my decision. Just stunning!!

What a truly beautiful car!
I just love this style of Alfa, and this example, and caliber of restoration is truly amazing.
I live just north (probably less than an hour of you) and live just west of Toronto (Oakville) for 46 yrs and know that these cars are a very rare sight on the roads here in the GTA.
I’ve been modifiying and restoring cars and bikes my whole life and appreciate something special when I see one. And this Alfa GT 1300 is definetly special and rare on our roads as Faisal would know.
Excellent job and taste on this one.
I hope to have the honour to see and meet Faisal and this car in person on day on the road or even better in a parking lot someday soon.

It’s only a matter of time for a tastefully done Alfaholics 105 gets featured and this is absolutely a fine example of them! Not to mention it actually owns by a fellow Canadian, that’s something to be proud of for sure. ha!

the interior is very functional with just a touch of luxury added by the red stitching.
what brand are the seats ?
this is the classic alfa – only wish their current cars were as desirable.

Could some Alfa enthousiast tell me what is the best from a driving point of view between the 1300 and the 2000? I have already driven a 2000 and i really enjoyed it but i have to admit that the 1300 is better looking especially from the rear. Your car is wonderful Faisal, you did a really good job with modern components on one of the finest classics Alfa. You just need to add a clover.. But not instead of the black snake, that looks really good 🙂

Faisal, you’re clearly a man of great taste, and Lucas has a great eye!
As you may know, I’m very biased, but I just love those high-revving 1300 motors. So much fun coming from a relatively small power plant.

I would like to ask 2 things of you sir:
1: what is the paint code?

2: could i perhaps see this Gorgeous piece of sexy on the road sometime? I live in the GTA, and would have no problem traveling to see this machine

Peter,

1. There is no paint code for this as the colour is bespoke and was developed over some time after various trials. It’s a candy red done the old-fashioned way starting with a gold base coat.

2. I’d be happy to let you see the car in person. Once driving season kicks in I’m out at cruise nights. If you provide your email I can stay in touch.
