An Alfa Romeo 2+2 concept by Bertone that appeared at the Expo ’67 in Montreal was the genesis of the Alfa that would bear the name of the Canadian city three years later. While the concept car used the chassis and 1600cc four from the Giulia, the production version used a 2593cc V8. Ironically, none were sold in Montreal because Alfa Romeo didn’t develop a North American version to meet Canadian or American emissions.

However, the combination of show-car styling and Italian V8 power can be intoxicating, which is why this 1971 Montreal “time capsule” on eBay warrants a look. Only 3,917 Montreals were built through 1977, with this one imported to the U.S. in the 1980s. This example was until recently in a climate-controlled collection. Seller claims it has the “rare” leather seats with gauges (in Italian) in good functioning order. The fuel-injected 2.6 shows 48,900 kilometers and the ZF five-speed manual “shifts great and goes through all the gears smoothly with no binding or sticking.” As this one is a relatively original car, there are a few blemishes, such as a crack in the dashboard and small holes on the side of both seats, but due to the car’s originality it would simply be enjoyable enough to ignore and just drive.
