An Alfa Romeo Affair - Driving the Giulia, 4C, GTA, Montreal, and Giulietta at Willow Springs
Hi everyone here on Petrolicious. My first car was a 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0. Although poor quality an emotional piece of car. I have to agree that besides the 8C the nowadays Alfa Romeos don’t have the sex appeal but Sergio pushes the whole Alfa portfolio to produce and sell more cars. From a business perspective understandable. I only miss one Alfa Romeo on this video: The Tipo 33 Stradale. What a hell of a car. If I had the money and would find one… Saluti dal Cuore Sportivo. A few months ago I would have thought this was so much hyperbole, then I spent a few months with my friend Suban as cancer rapidly took his life.The pain would overwhelm him and he would be consumed with self pity and doubt about the glory of life itself. Then one night while talking about cars he told me about his Alfa Romeo GTV6. It was a transforming moment, as he spent the next 2 hours describing how he found the car, how it looked, smelled, felt and most importantly the glorious sound it made. From then on we would spend some time every night talking about His Alfa. We took many trips along lake Michigan and across the country, I got to know some of his lost lady friends. I learned how he wold save pizza delivery boxes to slide under the car to locate oil leaks, and if you find the right Alfa electrical guy you would not have any problems. You always bought that guy Christmas and birthday presents.
Then I found a audio file of an Alfa V6 being taken through it’s paces on a canyon road. Yeah, glorious is the best adjective too describe the sound they make. When I would leave for the night he would always ask to hear His Alfa one more time.
The memories of that car did what no drug or soothing words could. They helped Suban remember the wonderful life he had lived and opened the door to the possibility that if man could create His beautiful Alfa then what lay ahead of him would be even better.
I’m sorry man, maybe 4C, but lining up the new big fatso next to the classic Alfa just makes the new Giulia a fat ugly mockery of what Alfa Romeo USED TO stand for. Fine, it’s got wicked performance, but look at it, it looks like something Chinese had copied. It’s an unlikable looking car, which is really odd considering all the past Alfas, even the ugliest ones, were very likable looking. Oh, and one more thing, this was the worst of the paid-for-by film on Petrolicious list thus far.
