What Is Your Favorite Automotive Hangout?

By
February 28, 2013

Early on Sunday mornings, my fellow Alfisti friends and I drive up PCH to Cross Creek and hang out at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at the Malibu Country Mart where we kill 45 minutes talking cars and telling bad jokes before heading out to the Malibu canyons for some serious driving.

I used to take my 240z over to a mainly usdm meet every wed on lawrence expressway in santa clara but they stopped going for the winter. also been to a couple of the “old school import meets” on the last thursday of every month also in santa clara, ca.

The shokuji j-tin historics on april 20th is the next big meet if you’re into vintage japanese cars!

Goodwood Sunday breakfasts can be a great place to hang out with other car people on a Sunday morning, but have become too popular lately leading to over crowding. I’m on the lookout for some new South East UK car hangouts this summer.

Behind the steering wheel of my Spider? Seriously, my favourite hangout is the Spettacolo Sportivo Alfa Romeo, which in 2013 will be held at the Zandvoort racetrack August 24th/25th. Two days of being overdosed with Alfa Romeo. I am happy to be one of the contributors in the organisation. In the past years we have had visitors from the US, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Russia, the UK, Poland, Austria and many other countries. Among our guests from Italy was also Marco Fazio who starred at these pages a little while ago. I do miss a hang out place. It is just tough to find people who share the same exact interest as you do. I do a lot of machine and welding work with my car hobby and I would like to “talk shop” with people with the same interest and I wouldnt want to hang out with people who like to wax and polish cars or take pictures of them. I have nothing against wax and polish or photo guys. It is just that I would have limited knowledge to share with them. I guess what I am trying to say is within the car culture, there are a number of subcultures where you have to find your fit.

Fabricating anything interesting lately? I’m a fabricator, and am hoping to one day find the time to work on my own projects…
Ain’t much time left for “hanging out” between work and the little ones, although I would like to do the Targa California this year to see some friends and drive like hell.

Since moving to LA I need to find a new hangout. I miss being able to hang out at JDM Legends in Salt Lake City and with buddy Andrew at T1 Race Development in Dallas.

My friends’ garages. I say that because I currently don’t have my own (damn apartments).

You should get a garage! I’m currently ruining the concrete in mine with every kind of fluid that’s in my fiat spider. They can get over it when I move out. I pay enough that they can just resurface it and see no loss still.

Oh if only I could, but unfortunately my current apartment complex doesn’t have garages anywhere. I’m changing that when I move in June.
