Steve McQueen set a new standard for the car and bike fan. While you may not be able to afford many of his personal vehicle choices, there is nothing stopping you from co-opting much of his personal style into your life.
Step one: Minimize and distill functions down to their core essence. Modern vehicles can tell you how long until you arrive at your destination and which Starbucks has the shortest line, but all you really need is much less than that. Pare down your bike’s instruments to just a beautifully minimalist tach and you’ll discover just how much a motorcycle can communicate to you through your arms and legs.
Step two: Every fan of motorized transport, male or female, needs a cool leather jacket. It’s just a rule. If your somehow lacking in this regard then take a gander at any number of vintage or vintage inspired items like the one below. Steve’s choices were always functional above all else, and an RAF-inspired bomber jacket fits that bill neatly.
Steve McQueen is a hero to many of us—and there is nothing wrong with following a good example. He made his choices wisely, and avoided excess and needless adornment. That is as good a definition for style as I’ve ever heard.
